  GONZALES/RODRIGUEZ: UNCUT AND
  UNCENSORED

Rodriguez Graphic

The first compilation of the bold and articulate insights of the only
Chicano husband and wife team of newspaper columnists, this
book is a chronicle of the Chicano/Latino experience in the 1990s.
Against the backdrop of an America that is only beginning to pay
attention to the voices and yearnings of a minority group that will
not go away, Patrisia Gonzales and Roberto Rodrguez write a
weekly column, giving their own views of the issues of the day.
Sometimes their vision is considered too radical and few
newspaper editors will carry their column. At times an editor may
decide to cut the length of the column. In any case, their voice,
often poignant, often outraged, sometimes humorous, but always
powerful, has been muffled far too often.

Whether exposing governmental abuses of the census or
congressional bills designed to take away the rights of immigrants
or showing us how Latino actors are trapped in Hollywood
stereotypes, Gonzales and Rodrguez never pull any punches. Nor
do they report anything that they have not completely researched
  and verified.

  GONZALES/RODRIGUEZ: UNCUT AND UNCENSORED
contains fifty-two columns as the authors intended them to be
read. They are excellent for classroom use.

  The Chicano Index
Edited by Lillian Castillo-Speed, Richard Chabrán and
  Francisco García-Ayvens

Formerly the Chicano Periodical Index. This is the only

specialized index for Mexican-American reference. It completely

indexes every major Chicano periodical and selectively indexes
approximately 400 mainstream periodicals in each volume.
Since 1989 it has also provided indexing to books,
anthology articles, reports and other documents. An average of
3,000 articles are indexed in every volume. The headings are
drawn from the Chicano Thesaurus, and organized under subject,
author, and title categories. Librarians in all public and academic
core collections (even in libraries with small collections of Chicano
materials) can direct users to information about Chicanos in
periodicals as varied as Social Science Quarterly, The New
Yorker, Time Magazine, and American Journal of Epidemiology.

  Alcohol-Related Issues in the Latino
  Population, 1980-1990: An Annotated
  Bibliography
  M. Jean Gilbert, Beatriz Solis, and Juana Mora

Cover of Alcohol-Related Issues

This resource contains 247 bibliographic citations about Latino
alcohol use, each with a descriptive abstract. It provides invaluable
information for researchers, policymakers and community service
providers. Prior to 1980, little was known about alcohol use
among Latinos living in the U.S.

In the decade between 1980 and 1990, however, research
and information on the subject expanded significantly.
In this book, the authors organize the citations into two
broad categories of "Adult" and "Youth," which are further divided
into such topics as "Cultural Issues," "Epidemiology," "Social and
Medical Indicators," "Prevention," and "Treatment." Separate title
  and author indexes increase accessibility.

autobiography. In compiling this bibliography, Tina Eger sought to
make an exhaustive rather than selective list: her many years of
scanning journals and newspapers, searching various existing
reference tools, and initiating correspondence with some 300
writers and critics culminated in this volume which was the first of
its kind and is still the most comprehensive. Separate author and

  Darkness Under the Trees
  Luis Omar Salinas

Cover of Under the Trees Walking Behind the Spanish

"His style is powerfully individual, but it dips into the deep well of
Chicano heritage...In this collection his heartfelt delivery and
imagination are fashioned to their finest tuning." Northwest
  Review

This volume is really two poetry collections under one cover. The
first part concerns those moments when it is difficult, almost
impossible to continue after witnessing the world's dark edges.
The second is a visionary link, and perhaps homage to the
poets of the Spanish Civil War, whose sensibilities the author
shares in style and in sense of world community. Together they
play off one another and affirm Salinas' deep appreciation
of life and his empathy for the ungenerous portions of fate.
